A taste of Kangaroo Island

Island Beehive Honey, Kingscote
Island Beehive has been producing pure organic honey on the Island since 2006. Owner Peter Davis was born on Kangaroo Island and grew up around bees kept as a sideline on the family farm. Now amongst the biggest organic honey producers in Australia, Davis is a leading advocate for the honey production industry in Australia and is pro-active in protecting and promoting the Ligurian Bee heritage. Visit Island Beehive and sample a range of honey flavours and products available for the local Kangaroo Island market and for distribution throughout Australia. Or take part in a personalised ‘Beehive’ tour before picking up a jar of Island Beehive honey to take with you.

Oyster Farm Shop, American River
In the seaside town of American River, you will find some of the best Pacific Oysters in the world! The Oyster Farm Shop is the farm-gate outlet for Kangaroo Island Shellfish, the only commercial oyster farm on the island. At the Oyster Farm Shop, the freshest of oysters on Kangaroo Island are shucked daily when in season (around April to January). Discover the Island’s aquaculture and sustainable seafood straight from the source, then sit back and enjoy a share-plate from the Local Produce Tasting menu with a glass of he Island’s finest wine, ale or cider.

Hannaford and Sachs, Snellings Beach
Depending on the time of year it’s an absolute must to dine in either Hannaford and Sachs’ Shearing Shed or Enchanted Fig Tree. The 150-year-old shearing shed is ambient with candle light, antique furniture, chandeliers and 1920s music playing from the gramophone. Stay cosy with a glass of local red wine before dining in this intimate setting.
Or for those travelling through December to April, be part of a gourmet dining experience beneath the Enchanted Fig Tree canopies. Enjoy the fresh, local produce inside your ‘dining room’ where all you’ll see of the outside world is dappled light streaming through the fig leaves.

KI Spirits, Cygnet river
Conveniently located just outside of Kingscote, Kangaroo Island Spirits (KIS) will serve you the most impressive gin and tonic you’ve ever had (no, really!). Their signature KIS Wild Gin is made in small batches, London Dry style, and distilled with native Juniper foraged from the wild coast of Kangaroo Island, finished with fresh limes from the nearby Fleurieu Peninsula. Enjoy it served with local herbs and dehydrated fruit. And be sure to try their Old Tom Gin, lightly aged in small re-charred French oak barrels. The addition of local aniseed and lemon myrtles add sweet characters to this classic old-style gin.

Zone Restaurant, Kingscote
Zone Restaurant features stunning views over Nepean Bay and Kingscote Wharf. The menu encompasses fresh seafood and local Kangaroo Island produce. Enjoy the relaxed vibe of Zone Restaurant and Bar giving guests more opportunities to sample the best of Kangaroo Island culinary before retiring for the evening to their room at the Ozone Hotel.

Where to stay? The Ozone Hotel there’s no need to travel far after dinner with only a short walk from Zone Restaurant and Bar to your hotel room.
